Joe is a model railroad enthusiast and has an interest in ship histories, particularly those of BC Coastal Towboats. His many sports interests include lacrosse, hockey, and football and he was a founder of the Richmond Outlaws (now Burnaby Lakers) franchise in the Western Lacrosse Association.
